Our elevator pitch workshop
Shark Tank is a business reality television show where entrepreneurs showcase new goods or businesses to potential investors (sharks) (Yu, 2022). We were given a similar task of finding an issue in our community and developing a solution. For this solution, we had to collaborate with other specialized departments (Marketing, Human Resource Management, and Accounting), and then pitch it to our professor. This was my first experience working with other departments, and I was thrilled to be able to do so on a project. As a class, we decided to team together to form "Green Gaming Corporation," a mobile gaming company that donates its profits to environmentally friendly organizations that help clean up the environment. As part of the marketing team, I helped with the company's promotion aspect.
From this experience, I developed project-planning skills and learned how to pitch an idea to an audience. Furthermore, I developed an understanding of shared values and teamwork with other specializations, financial knowledge that is sustainable and ethical, and the ability to make entrepreneurial decisions. According to Hall (2014), Shark Tank allows students to combine real-world activities with relevant and authentic marketing and business principles.
