A part of this Marketing in Practice module included an activity where each student was given 3 minutes to do a TED Talk in class explaining a topic of our choice related to our specialization.
Although given the weekend to prepare, I had no idea what to share and was not a big fan of public speaking which made me feel very anxious. Luckily, I found a good topic that I could relate to a day before the class and made sure I outlined it. Practicing in the mirror made me confident with my hand gestures and message delivery. During the session, I felt nervous because its been a while since I’ve spoken to an audience. As my turn came to speak, I felt as if I was talking to my friends and my nervousness just went away. I felt confident with my topic about “Marketing effort”, and I was happy with how I executed it and interacted with the class.
This activity taught me that standing confidently in front of a group and speaking are valuable communication skills that I will need in the future (Costigan & Brink, 2020). Because of the friendly classroom environment with constructive feedback from the professor and students, it was the ideal location that helped me develop and practice this skill.
